GAPP GROUPS

Welcome to GAPP in Birmingham.

The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community led groups for people with an interest in drama, theatre or performance.

Since 2000 GAPP have been an active community group in Birmingham UK. We have presented self devised performances and worked with some world renowned Directors and Performance Artistes, creating vibrantly colourful, sometimes challenging and controversial, but always enjoyable productions for ourselves and we hope our audiences too.

In 2005 GAPP created a second performance group that now meets weekly rehearsing plays and theatre pieces for semi annual production presentations.

GAPP THEATRE group are always openly looking for members of the LGBT community to join the group. We aim for GAPP Theatre to be a safe environments for people to be themselves, creating theatre productions either written by members of the group or gay playwrights.

Bring your skills and experience to the group and you could take the lead in producing established Gay plays, or Plays written by gay people, all you need is to get a group of people together, encourage the existing GAPP groupers to get involved  and with support from the GAPP management committee we will look at helping with arts and community funding applications and our very supportive friends and gapp supporters will ty to help make your performance dream turn into a reality.

Call Andrew about thursday night's rehearsals and latest theatre pieces on 07779 379578 or send an email to GAPP gayandperfomingproudly@yahoo.co.uk

GAPP PERFORMANCE

GAPP Performance group offers lesbian women, and gay/bisexual men a contemporary performance platform, providing opportunities for people to share their thoughts and feelings with other people who may have similar life experiences, exploring issues around sexuality using drama, theatre and performance to express to the world what's going on in our lives. In addition to the self exploration side of our performances we have been involved as a gay community group with Birmingham Opera Company  and other community groups across the city, developing diverse relationships with people from all backgrounds and ethnic groups. This truly has been community cohesion at its best.

GAPP Performance has worked with Professional Performers, Choreographers and Internationally renowned Directors, and continually strives for excellence in the field of Queer Performance.

GAPP Committee

GAPP is a registered not for profit lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community group.

We have a management committee made up of the founders of GAPP group and past and present contributers who oversee the continued running, developments and success of the group.

Our Executive Chair Person - John Read.

John joined the GAPP Performance group in 2002 after seeing the advertisement in Midlands Zone magazine. A keen writer and performer, John was instrumental in the setting up of the business side of keeping GAPP afloat.  A mortgage advisor by day, John becomes a character for every occassion and performance by night, including a very friendly Police man in the 2006 performance piece which he co devised for the West Midlands Police annual Conference on takling discrimination and reporting homophobia.

Our Executive Secretary - Mike Lowe

Mike is one of the founders of GAPP who right from his interview as a sexual health promotion specialist in1999 told his (then) manager he wanted to establish a creative dimension to working with gay and bisexual men in Birmingham: where healthy living and sexual health were combined in a supportive network of community groups with shared interests. At the time Mike did not know that he would also be making lifetime friends with this group of men who came together to later create GAPP. Mike is co signature with John Read for GAPP accounts.
